Staff Report
George Thorogood & The Destroyers have been announced as the new headlining act for the opening night of the 29th Annual Thunder By The Bay Music & Motors Festival on Friday, February 19, 2027, at the Sarasota Fairgrounds.
Suncoast Charities for Children made the announcement this week after last week's unexpected news that headliner Cheap Trick had canceled all of their 2027 concert dates and would take an indefinite break from touring after five decades on the road.
For more than 53 years and over 8,000 live performances, George Thorogood and his longtime band, The Destroyers – Jeff Simon (drums), Bill Blough (bass), Jim Suhler (guitar) and Buddy Leach (saxophone) – have remained one of the most formidable live acts in rock music.
Known as “The All-American Rock & Roll Party Band,” George Thorogood & The Destroyers continue to deliver fan favorites and timeless rock classics, including “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer,” “Move It On Over,” “Who Do You Love?” “I Drink Alone,” “Get A Haircut,” and “Bad To The Bone.”
“Before we ever recorded a record, we were a touring band,” says Thorogood. “Even after selling 15 million albums, we’re still a touring band. Touring isn’t just in our blood; it’s the reason we exist.”
General admission, Party Pit, and VIP tickets are on sale now at discounted prices through December 31. For tickets and complete festival information, visit
