Grassroots candidate Thomas Schwarz pulled off a major upset, narrowly defeating establishment-backed appointed incumbent Kemp Schuessler in Tuesday's non-partisan Bradenton City Council Ward 3 race.
Schuessler had been appointed to the seat when Josh Kramer vacated it to accept an appointment as Bradenton Police Chief. Despite strong dark-money PAC support for Shuessler, Schwarz won 7,669 to 7,502 votes, a margin of .9%.
Incumbent first-term Ward 4 Councilwoman Lisa Gonzalez Moore defeated establishment-backed challenger Keith Green in a 12-point landslide, despite Green benefiting from numerous misleading attack campaigns by dark-money PACs and the Manatee County Republican Party's MREC.
