Bradenton, Florida - Thaddeus Theodore Porembski, a former Nuclear Engineer and former resident of Jacksonville, FL, died on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the Water's Edge Assisted Living facility, Bradenton, Florida at the age of 107 years.
Thaddeus was born July 1, 1916, in City Mills (Norfolk), MA, the son of the late John and Sophia Glowka Porembski, and late brothers, Frederick and Stanley, and late sister, Helen Porembski. He was predeceased by his wife, Lottie Kosiba Budka Porembski of 57 years and former wife, Josephine Calarese Porembski of 18 years.
He is survived by one daughter, Kathleen M. Porembski Beccia (Andrew J. Korzeniowski); 2 grandsons, Stephen J. Beccia of Hudson, MA and John A. Beccia, III (Renée) of Lynnfield, MA; 4 great-granddaughters, Caitlyn B. Dias Tavares (Kevin), Emelia B. Beccia Bliss (Jake), Willow J. Beccia-Cobotic (Sam), and Charlotte E. Beccia; 3 great-grandsons, Avry S. Beccia, Trueman T. Beccia, and John A. Beccia IV; and 3 great-great-grandchildren, Lilyetta Dixon Tavares, Anorah J. Bliss, and Emmett J. Bliss; all from Massachusetts. Also survived by a step-granddaughter, Lisa A. Busch Milewski (Christopher L.); step-grandsons, Jeffrey M.Busch, Kevin R. Busch (Nicole); and step-great-grandsons, Patrick T. and Ryan A.Milewski; all from upstate NY and descendants of the late Catherine Budka Busch.
His education included: Bachelor of Science (in Chemical Engineering), Northeastern University, Boston, MA, 1939; licensed professional engineer in MA, NJ, PA, W VA, FL, TX; His career included: Mechanical Engineer, GE, River Works, Lynn, (MA), 1940-56; Project Engineer/ Consultant, Knolls Atomic Power Lab., GE, Schenectady, (NY), 1956-65; Mechanical Engineer Supervisor, Burns and Roe, Inc., Kwajalein (Marshall Island), 1965-67; Senior Mechanical Engineer, Burns and Roe, Inc., Oradell (NJ), 1967-68; Project Engineer, Nuclear Materials & Equipment Corp., Apollo, (PA), 1968-71; Nuclear Systems Engineer, Offshore Power Systems (Westinghouse), Pittsburgh, (PA), 1971-72; Principal Engineer, Nuclear Air and Gas Treatment Systems, Offshore Power Systems, Jacksonville, (FL), 1972-84.
During his career, he authored five (5) technical papers on industrial air cleaning, 1959-63; created three (3) U. S. patents, #4,623,511, #4,775,397, #4,895,644, in the years 1986, 1988, and 1990 respectively. He became an author and contributor to the Polish textbook, Wentylacja I Klimatyzacja, 1962 ARKADY; National Contributor, ASME/ANSI AG-1-1988, Code on Nuclear Air and Gas Treatment. He was a juror on a Jacksonville, FL Grand Jury, 1975, and Jacksonville, Fla. Civil Court, 1980. He belonged to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, 1973-88; ASME, since 1968, (committees' chairman, 1977-88); honors: several certificates of acknowledgement, 1940-84; ASME award for exemplary service, 1988. He retired in 1984, at which time he enjoyed boating, walking, bird watching, and working on his computer. He authored a Porembski Family History, an account of his parents' journey to this country, his siblings, and his childhood experiences.
He also wrote a Rosetta Stone document, "a code of virtues and knowledge of achieving a happy life" with more than fifty (50) revised additions over the years! A Memorial Service and double burial will be held next month in Amsterdam, New York. At that time, his daughter will be honoring his wishes to bury his wife's and his ashes together.
