Robert “Bob” Tompkins, 88, passed away on September 21, 2026, leaving behind family and loved ones who will carry his memory for generations to come.
Bob was born on March 20, 1938, in Presque Isle, Maine, to Leon and Elsie Tompkins. He was a proud man who valued family and the simple things in life. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend.
A hardworking man, Bob spent 37 years, from 1977 to 2010, as a heavy equipment operator for Woodruff & Sons in Bradenton, FL. He took great pride in his work and was dedicated to providing for his family.
Though he was a quiet mannered man, Bob’s best friend, Steve, remembers, “He was a man of a few words, but occasionally he would talk your ear off.” Bob will be remembered for his patience, hard work, love of hunting and fishing, and, most of all, the love he shared with his family and friends. The memories he created will remain with them always.
Bob shared his life with his beloved wife, Virginia “Ginny” Tompkins. He was the father of Todd and Mark Tompkins and the stepfather of the late Wade Humphries. Through Wade, Bob was blessed with two grandchildren, Breanne and Ryan. Being a grandfather became one of the most meaningful roles of his life. He was especially proud of his great-grandchildren, Breon, Kingston, and Amira.
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought tremendous love and meaning to his later years. Bob also shared a special and lasting bond with Wade’s ex-wife, Katherine M. Woodruff. He always referred to her as “his daughter” and loved her dearly. Katherine’s husband, Chris, and her sons, David and Michael, also became an important part of Bob’s life and extended family.
In his final days, Bob chose to spend his remaining time at Chris and Katherine’s home, surrounded by people he loved, with his wife, Virginia, by his side. It was there that he passed away on September 21, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Elsie Tompkins; his brother, Sidney Tompkins; and his sister, Patricia Tompkins Carney.
He leaves behind his wife, Virginia; his sons, Todd Tompkins and Mark Tompkins, and their respective families; his grandchildren, Breanne Winn and Ryan Humphries; his great-grandchildren, Breon Winn, Kingston Albritton, and Amira Albritton; Katherine and Chris Woodruff and their sons, David and Michael; his many dear friends; and all those who loved him and will miss him dearly.
His life lives on through the generations he leaves behind and the many lives he touched along the way. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
Until we meet again.
