Posted

Ok Ja Meyer, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 6, 2024, at Integrated Hospice in Libertyville, Illinois. Ok Ja was born in Kyunggi-do, South Korea to Dae Sook Lee and Yoo Soon Shin on July 8, 1939.

She met and married the love of her life in Seoul, South Korea, Jack Robert Meyer. Married for almost 60 years, they resided for thirty years in Zion and Winthrop Harbor Illinois, raising three children (John, LeAnn and Mary) and where they both worked for AT&T before retiring and moving to Palmetto, Florida.

OkJa had a passion for dog grooming where she specialized in Pomeranians and Poodles as well as a love of gardening which she spent many hours doing in her Illinois home. However, one of her greatest passions in retirement was traveling with Jack in their RV, golfing and dancing her heart out at all the Piney Point Dances. We are sure she and Jack are hitting the links again!

OkJa joins her husband, Jack, who passed away in November of 2019 and is survived by her children: son, John Meyer (Joyce); daughters, LeAnn Warfel Groman, Mary Olsen (Dean); sister, ChungJa Yang; sister-in-law, Peggy Agate; seven grandchildren, Allison Groman, Andrea Groman, April Groman, Steven Groman, Mitch Olsen, Eric Olsen, John Meyer Jr., and four great grandchildren, Leslie, Titan, Elianna, Reyna and many nieces and nephews.

OkJa was very fortunate to have summer visits to Pennsylvania and Illinois this year where she was able to visit with each of her kids, grandkids, great grandkids and many other relatives one last time. Ok Ja was very appreciative of the community and all the friends she had at Piney Point and her Sweatshop Family.

A Burial will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery on April 12, 2024, at 10:30am. A Celebration of Life memorial luncheon will take place on April 13, 2024, at noon in the Piney Point Community Hall.

All are welcome to attend. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name to Childs Voice School (https://childsvoice.org/donate-today/) in Wood Dale, Illinois.
