Hamrick, Mary Edna Keen

74 of Tampa Florida. passed away March 12, 2025 after a long battle with colon cancer. Mary Edna Keen was born on June 20, 1950 to Edward and Pauline Keen in Atlanta, GA. The family moved to Columbia, SC in 1957 and on to Bradenton, FL in 1961. Mary graduated from Manatee High School in 1968. She earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts and a master's degree in reading from Florida State University graduating summa cum laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In 1972 Mary married Richard Hamrick of Bradenton, FL, who passed away in 2001.

Mary started her teaching career in reading, English and elementary education at Quincy Jr. High , St. Paul's School, Bishop Eton School, IDS School and Hillsborough Community College. After 20 years she was delighted to switch to elementary art in the public schools. She loved sharing her passion for creating with eager young students. Mary retired in 2016 after 43 years in education and was able to enjoy many travels with her family and friends. She also volunteered at the library and her church.

Mary was an active member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church for over 40 years and her church family were a major support during difficult times. Many thanks for the prayers, calls, and cards.

Mary is survived by her two sons, Jeff and Alex (Erin) who have been so caring and attentive. She is also survived by her two wonderful granddaughters, Leah and Charlotte, "Mima's Angels". In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church or to the Friends of the Maureen B. Gauzza Library.

A memorial service and celebration life will be held on Sunday, March 16, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, at 6100 Memorial Highway in Tampa. Visitation is at 1 pm with services at 2 pm. Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park in Ellenton is entrusted with arrangements.
