Mr. George Humberstone Adkins, 83, passed away on January 24, 2025, in Bradenton, Florida. Born on August 25, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio, he lived a life dedicated to family, service, and community.

George spent his early years in Ohio, attending Plain City School from 1950 to 1955 before graduating from Jonathan Alder High School in 1959. He pursued further education at Ohio University from 1959 to 1960 before serving in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963 as a Specialist 4th Class, stationed in Italy.

Following his military service, George built a distinguished career across multiple industries. He worked as a manager at John Deere Implement in Plain City, Ohio, before transitioning into technology as a computer specialist manager for Radio Shack in Columbus, Ohio, and Bradenton, Florida. Later, he found success in real estate, working as an agent for Cliff Lamoreaux ERA before co-owning and operating Adkins Realty in Bradenton.

A man of faith, George was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in both Plain City and Bradenton. His community involvement extended beyond his church-he served with the Lions Club and City Council and supported youth development as a 4-H sponsor.

George was a loving husband to Sonya (Simon) Adkins and a devoted father to Kelly (Randy) Steinke of Bradenton, FL; Robert (Lisa) Adkins of Potomac, MD; and George Adkins of Saint Petersburg, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, H. Parker and Ruth (Humberstone) Adkins; his son Bryan D. Adkins (2005); and his sister Nancy E. Cooke (2002). He leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren: Paul Steinke, Eric Steinke, Robert Adkins II, Elizabeth Steinke, Alexander Adkins, Rosina Adkins, Marissa Adkins, and Angelina Adkins.

George had a passion for technology long before it became mainstream. He enjoyed movies, cooking for loved ones, photography-often developing his own photos-and tackling household repairs with skill and patience. He believed deeply in treating others with kindness and respect. His dedication to family was unwavering; he made time for weekend beach trips, boating excursions, fishing outings, movie nights in the garage, and teaching his children how to ride bicycles. He took pride in chronicling family moments through photography and sharing his knowledge of computers with elementary school students in the mid-1980s.

A Funeral Mass will take place on February 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradenton (2704 33rd Ave W).
