Edward Francis Bowler Jr., 83, of Millsboro DE, passed away on February 17, 2024. He was born on July 12, 1940, in Winchester, MA, to Edward and Eva Bowler. Edward was a loving husband to Ann Abbott Bowler for 58 years and a devoted father to Mark (Emily), Stephen (Mary Jane), and Christopher (Joelle). He was a cherished grandfather to Maria, Angela, Jessica, Quinn, Victoria, Grace, Katherine, and great-grandsons Joshua and Elijah as well as many nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Rogers.
Edward, known as Ed (Eddie) to his friends and family, had a rich and fulfilling life. After attending Winchester High School, he pursued higher education at Northeastern University and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Edward served in the US Army ROTC for 2 years advancing to Captain, honing his skills and dedication to his country.
He embarked on a successful career as a Mechanical Engineer at Xerox for 32 years, where he contributed to new product development and held several patents. Edward briefly worked on a joint venture with Dupont and Xerox called DXI before returning to Xerox in Rochester, NY. Following his retirement, he studied and became a financial advisor with AXA Advisors where he was awarded "Rookie of the Year" and eventually went on to work for New England Financial. He was an active member of the Millsboro Senior Center as well as his neighborhood HOA.
A man of many talents and interests, Edward enjoyed a wide range of hobbies, including remodeling projects, building grandfather clocks (he built the family television), snowmobiling, water sports, golfing (the holder of a hole in one), and volunteering extensively in his community. He was a lector at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a scout leader (Webster Troop #262), and president of the Webster Ridge Runners snowmobile club. The highlight of his retirement was traveling with Ann and his beloved ragdoll cat Breton in his motorhome, spending time together with family and friends.
Edward's love for travel and exploration led him to worship at Holy Trinity Parish in Webster, NY, St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, DE, and St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bradenton, FL.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Edward's life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to Edward's heart.
Edward will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, service, and dedication will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
