With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Daniel Eugene New, a devoted son, brother, veteran, and cherished friend, on April 22, 2025, in Bradenton, Florida. He was 75 years old. Born in South Philadelphia on September 4, 1949, Dan lived a life defined by service, humility, and a quiet, enduring faith. His legacy is one of unwavering love-for his family, his country, and his community.
Upon graduating Bishop Neumann High School's Class of 1968, it was his call to serve that shaped the course of Dan's life. He enlisted in the United States Navy, serving honorably as a Petty Officer aboard the USS Holland during the Vietnam War. His courage, sense of duty, and patriotism were a constant source of pride throughout his life.
After his honorable discharge in 1974, Dan began working briefly as a carpenter's assistant with the Department of Interior in the historic part of Philadelphia. In 2005, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by relocating to Florida, where he embraced the sun, the ocean, and the peace of coastal living. Bradenton became not only his home, but also his sanctuary.
Dan's devotion to his fellow veterans remained a lifelong calling, allowing him to serve others in reserved but powerful ways. A passionate supporter of the Travis Manion Foundation and the , he regularly visited nearby VA hospitals, often arriving with home-baked treats and thoughtful gifts-small, heartfelt gestures that brought comfort and connection to his fellow veterans.
Dan embodied a quiet, steadfast faith that spoke volumes through his actions. A man of modest Christian belief, he lived his convictions with humility and grace. His unwavering support for the pro-life movement was evident not through grand declarations, but through consistent acts of compassion and service. With kindness and generosity, Dan extended gentle guidance and unconditional care to everyone he encountered. His life was a testament to the power of living one's values with stilled strength and unwavering love.
Dan was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John and Lillian "Angel" (Herrmann) New, and his brother, John Ronald New. He is survived by a loving family who will hold his memory forever in their hearts: his sister Denise (Frank) Hagan of Collingswood, NJ; brothers Dennis (Deb) New of Horsham, PA, and Darren New of Bristol, PA; and his sister Lora Clay of Wilder, VT.
Among his greatest blessings were his dear friends and caretakers, Pat and Joe Evans of Bradenton, FL, whose love and unwavering support during his final months meant the world to Dan and his entire family.
He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces Andrea New, Grace (Shawn) MacLean, and Lisa (Mike) Barikian; nephews John New, Jeremy Hagan, Sean (Katy) New, Ryan (Sara) New, Nicholas Clay, and Nathan Clay; as well as 11 great-nieces and nephews who brought him endless joy. Dan delighted in spending time with them, especially treating his nephews to scratch-off and lottery tickets-a tradition that, true to form, often led to surprising wins only Dan could pull off.
A Graveside Service honoring Dan's life will be held on Monday, May 5th, at 10:30 a.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery, located at 9810 State Road, Sarasota, FL. In keeping with Dan's wishes, there will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dan's name to the Travis Manion Foundation or the -causes he supported with all his heart.
Dan's life was a beautiful reflection of quiet strength, steady love, and generous service. As he believed, "Death is not the end of everything-it's the beginning of the next great adventure." While his passing leaves a space no one can fill, the memories he gifted us, the love he shared, and the life of giving he led will live on-in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
