Bernice Dickerson Bailey, 98 years old, died on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, after a lengthy battle with dementia. Bernice is survived by her two adult children, Shelley (Tom) and Ronald. She also has one granddaughter, Christen (Brandon), and one great-grandson, Noah.
Bernice was born on August 24, 1928, in Stafford, Virginia. She was the middle daughter of James and Mattie Dickerson. She had two sisters, Mary and Joyce, both of whom preceded her in death.
On April 7, 1953, she married the love of her life, Edgar Leon Bailey. Together they built a life centered on family and simple joys. In 1965, they moved to Sarasota, Florida, where they spent more than 60 wonderful years creating cherished memories. Bernice loved her home, her pool, tending to her plants, relaxing at the beach, playing bingo, and, most of all, spending time with family and friends who brought her so much happiness throughout her life.
After Edgar's passing in2003, her son, Ron, became her primary caregiver. As Bernice developed dementia, Ron continued to devote himself wholeheartedly to her care, providing comfort and unwavering love until the very end.
She will be cremated and laid to rest with her husband at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL. 34241 on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 10AM.
