Laverne R. Hooks, 71, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, Florida.
She was born in Punxsutawney on Dec. 17, 1952, daughter of the late Arnold Rubin and Marie Lindsay Rubin.
Laverne was always full of generosity and gave her time freely to her family and her church. Everyone who met her was enchanted by her smile and charity of heart. Her artistic nature brought colorful joy to the world.
She is survived by husband James H. Hooks, Bradenton, Florida; sister Cheryl Cokley and husband John, Canonsburg; brother Jeff Rubin, Germany; three children, Stacey Soliday, Punxsutawney, Cara Barnett, Richlands, North Carolina, and BJ Soliday and wife Flanna, Irwin; aunt Shirley Pete, Punxsutawney; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service was held Jan. 28, 2024, in Bradenton, Florida. Memorial donations may be made in Laverne's memory to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
