So sad that our country has been taken over by a mad man, and Republicans will do nothing to stop it.

Finally! That space is prime real estate for some housing. Some people want Palmetto to stay in the past, but it's just going to continue to have a reputation for being rundown with nothing to offer.

Republicans "cheat" to win. That is gerrymandering - and yes Democrats did it too. Which only proof that quest for political power corrupts both parties, because parties are are made up of venial human beings. Some worse than others... right now it is the Republicans who are embracing the worst kind of two-faced morality ever.

THIS ARTICLE IS AWESOME!!!! Commissioner, I applaud you for doing this crucial legal research on legislative intent and tying it to the Chevron decision. This is what competence looks like. This is what representing the public (and not developers) looks like. This is what leadership looks like. THANK YOU!

Wait…Charlie Bishop’s administration has a “Director of Government Relations” AND a “Government Relations Manager?” Both of whom must report to Deputy Administrator, who reports to the Administrator. No wonder Mr. Bishop recommended the county buy a 2nd large office bldg.

I have enjoyed working with Joe for many years. When he was a state legislator , the commission would go to Tallahassee requesting things for the betterment of our community. He has said for years that he works for the people and he would carry their request further up the chain. Many did not like this, but that’s what your public servant is supposed to do. He still does that as senator.. There’s nothing that everybody loves 100% with their elected official, but I do expect somebody that we vote keeps an open mind and opens the door for the betterment of his constituents. Congratulations Joe.

And based on DeSantis' track record with wrecking home rule.... I'm not expecting him, or anyone he would assign to the task, to be terribly helpful. Maybe cut spending by ending the internment camp BS... or the war on everyone who isn't white... stop indoctrinating other people's schools... or spending so much to deny climate change, idk.

Seriously? Wal Mart and Manatee County Public Works should be easy enough to find. K-Mart may be a little harder. Does the clerk's office actually look for these people and corporations? I would be quite angry if I was owed funds and no one bothered to contact me.

"If Bill (Sanders) cared about the community and the residents he ran for mayor to represent, I'd think he would support this use of the property rather than fighting against it. " stated by Ellen, Bill Sanders ex-wife. It will be interesting to see if Mr. Sanders will do the right thing for his old neighborhood, the residents there and the City. Bill, move this forward, do not stand in the way or create unnessary drama. Ruth Lawler

We begin the era of "privatized control" of nature. The earth is our home, to treasure, to care for, to keep us alive, and to enjoy. Now nature itself has a price tag! How far will greed go? How evil and corrupt our politicians have become worshiping the "almighty dollar". When does the "breath" tax/fee start - at birth? - Sandra Gander

WOW. Impressive and in depth reporting. I suspect your thoughts on the unlikelyhood of the public ever knowing the whole story is correct. Thank you for these insights on this sordid situation.

As a parent of a student who was at new college when the take over occurred I am appalled at what I saw. Students were literally afraid to be on campus. Many students left. The honors college turned into a sports college and from my child’s experience as a teachers assistant many of the full ride scholarship athletes were failing classes. He lost professors and the new ones were all just temporary. It’s not an awesome place to be anymore. My child lost scholarships despite making perfect scores and being promised them for his full academic time at NCF….all about the same time the new president came in and got a 1.3 million dollar package to force the right wing views onto the the school and the students. Wonder where that scholarship money went. Donors need to think carefully before supporting this political regime. Never in history have the people who suppress education and ban books been on the right side. This point in history will be the same. The national government student loan reform is going to prevent us from having an educated country. You will certainly miss having physicians and nurses taking care of you when you need them because this student loan reform blocks blocks lower income and middle class people from being educated. Education is not for the elite oligarchy. We need educated people in our state and country.
