Valerie Routel Hodson, of Sarasota, FL, known lovingly as Valerie, passed away on May 8, 2026, in Largo, Florida, at the age of 88 with her family by her side. She was born on October 6, 1937, in Jersey City, New Jersey, and lived a life marked by devotion, grace, and steadfast Christian faith. Valerie’s journey on this earth was one of quiet strength and faithful service, and she will be remembered with deep love by all who were blessed to know her.

Valerie was a proud graduate of Weehawkin High School, and she carried the values of hard work, dignity, and perseverance throughout her life. She married the love of her life John William Hodson on September 22, 1956. She devoted herself to her family as a homemaker, a seamstress, and a mother of three children. In each of these roles, she gave of herself generously and without hesitation. Her home was a place of warmth, order, and love, shaped by her patient hands and caring heart. She understood that the blessings of daily life are often found in the simple acts of service, and she lived that truth with humility and joy.

Her faith in Christ was at the center of her life. Valerie was a devoted Christian who sought to honor God in her words, her actions, and her relationships. She served faithfully as a Eucharistic Minister, reflecting her deep reverence for the Lord and her desire to be of service to others in her church community. Her faith was not merely something she professed, but something she lived each day through kindness, compassion, and steadfast trust in God’s guidance. She was truly faith-filled, and her example encouraged others to walk more closely with the Lord.

Valerie also found joy in the gifts and interests that enriched her life. She was a Life Master of Bridge, a distinction that reflected her skill, focus, and love of the game. She enjoyed sewing, a craft that allowed her to create with care and precision, and one that suited her patient and thoughtful nature. She also enjoyed bowling, where she shared fellowship, laughter, and friendly competition. These interests brought her happiness and connected her with others in meaningful ways, adding color and delight to a life already rich in purpose.

Those who knew Valerie will remember her as loving, selfless, and faith-filled. She had a gentle spirit and a generous heart. She gave freely of her time and energy, often placing the needs of others before her own. Her love was steady and sincere, and her presence brought comfort and peace to those around her. She was a woman of quiet dignity, and her life was a testimony to the beauty of faithful living. In both ordinary moments and important milestones, she remained a source of strength and encouragement to her family and friends.

Valerie’s life was a blessing, and her memory will remain a treasured gift to her loved ones. Though her earthly journey has ended, her Christian hope endures in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Those who mourn her passing take comfort in knowing that she rests in the care of her Savior, free from suffering and at peace. Her legacy of love, devotion, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She is survived by her three children: Laura Baim (Paul), John Hodson (Bobbie) and Valerie Lyons (Robert). Also, a sister Colette, and 2 brothers Edward and John. She had 6 grandsons.

In her honor, Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday May 29th at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, 833 Magellen Dr, Sarasota, Catholic church where she attended for over 50 years. Following mass there will be a reception by the Church.

May Valerie Routel Hodson be remembered with gratitude and affection for a life well lived in service to God and family. Her example will continue to inspire those who follow after her, and her memory will be cherished always.
