Toy Drive for Mothers Helping Mothers in Need

Posted

BRADENTON — Mothers Helping Mothers is seeking community help with its annual Toy Day. MHM has provided toys and gifts each year to over 300 families with approximately 1,000 children in Sarasota and Manatee Counties who otherwise would go without. This year, MHM has increased to 350 families participating.

The number of families in need is outpacing the MHM facility's capacity for the event, but Steve Bierwirth, President of Bob Boast Volkswagen, has opened the dealership to host this year's MHM Toy Day.

“We are truly excited to see hundreds of families come to the dealership with their children on December 17 and to be part of spreading holiday goodwill,” said Bierwirth. “Last year was a joyful experience for all of us here at Boast. We are very proud to host again this year.”

Due to the increase in the number of families receiving gifts this year, MHM is in greater need of community assistance. There are three ways people can help.

Collection Boxes
Host a Toy Drive by placing a collection box in your work or business to collect unwrapped toys from now until December 15. Wrapped boxes with flyers attached are available upon request.

Donate toys or a Monetary Gift
Bring a new toy, have your employees, families, or friends donate toys, or make a financial gift, and MMH will purchase toys with the funding. Toy donation hours at MHM are M-T-W and Fri 8:45 a.m. to noon. The facility is located at 5933 N. Washington Blvd, Sarasota. Toys must be dropped off by 12 pm on Monday, Dec 15.

Scan – Pay – Ship
Save time by selecting toys from our Amazon Wish List and shipping them directly to us for the event at the address above.

One of the most anticipated gifts at the Toy Day is spearheaded by Kathy King with King of Events. King organized a bike drive for MHM and last year donated 180 new bicycles, sized for children from little to teens.

“This is the pinnacle in our toy drive each year,” says Cheri DeVries, Director of MHM. “Kathy is literally our Bike Angel, and this is the highlight of our moms' shopping visit. To the Suncoast, together, we can make a difference in the lives of countless families and continue our mission of spreading hope and stability.”

The event will take place on December 17 for MHM clients by invitation, appointments only. Mothers Helping Mothers pre-selects families via a lottery system to participate in the annual event.
