We all know how devastating Hurricane Milton has been to our county. I am writing to address Spectrum's response to the restoration of services, especially here in Palmetto.
Spectrum has been woefully missing from our streets, and only two to three trucks have been seen working in our city. We understand that restoration is a grinding process. However, FPL was prepared, and Spectrum was not.
Communication with the customers has been misleading and the tech support by phone is left wanting due to the company's failure to communicate with their support staff. Calls had to be elevated to get any answer, even a mediocre one.
The price they charge the homeowner for services should make our needs as important as those of a local business. Many people work or attend school online, and moving parts of the home office to a local Spectrum Wi-Fi spot is inconvenient. To quote
TBT Editor Mitch Maley responded to my email, "I'm familiar with how useless Spectrum can be. The way we license internet providers grants the sort of monopolies that free them from having to provide actual customer service."
I believe the counties and cities that benefit from the arrangement with these providers should start including service requirements into the equation, as the customers pay for those fees, not the company.
