Obituary: Oswald Joseph Piunti

Oswald ''Ozzie'' Joseph Piunti, 88, of Sarasota, FL, passed away in his home on May 8, 2016, joining his wife, Kathleen in everlasting peace.

Ozzie was born in Chicago Heights, IL on June 26, 1927. He married Kathleen on June 10 1951. They were happily married for 66 years, together they had three children. Ozzie served in the U.S. Navy, and was an active duty Veteran of World War II.

After the war, Ozzie attended Eastern Illinois University, where he met Kathleen and graduated with a Bachelors degree. Ozzie had a long career in the retail grocery industry. He owned a grocery store in Peotone IL, and later went on to work in management for several grocery chains.

After his retirement in 1992, he and Kathleen moved to Sarasota to enjoy his retirement. He was a lifelong avid Cubs fan, and was passionate about perfecting his game of golf. Ozzie was always the life of the party; he loved to dance, and enjoyed entertaining and socializing with his many friends.

He was a very proud father and enjoyed and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was also a loving and devoted husband, always supporting his wife, Kathleen in her career as an artist.

Ozzie is predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Kathleen Piunti; and is survived by their three children, Susan Hicks and her husband, Tony Daniels, Andrew Piunti and his wife, Kelly Raftery, Nina Orris and her husband, Glyn Lewis; and his four grandchildren, Jack and Allie Piunti, and Dan and Nick Orris.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm,Friday, June 3, 2016 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota FL.

A Celebration of Ozzie's Life will be held for family and close friends following the service.

Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 26th Street Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
