TALLAHASSEE — On Monday, James Fishback filed as a candidate for the 2026 Florida gubernatorial campaign. Fishback is the founder and CEO of investment fund Azoria Partners.
“I’m running for Florida Governor to make life more affordable for you and your family,” says Fishback. “Hardworking Floridians should be able to buy a home, raise a family, and retire with dignity.”
Fishback’s affordability platform includes ending the H-1B visa program, though it is unclear what, if anything, can be done about that at the state level. He also wants to limit hedge funds' and foreign speculators' ability to hoard housing stock and block the construction of AI Data Centers that would threaten our water supply and raise our electric bills.
Fishback also favors abolishing property taxes for all Florida residents’ homesteaded properties.
In Fishback’s campaign launch video, he criticizes primary opponent Byron Donalds for supporting H-1B visas, urging the construction of AI data centers across Florida, and allegedly profiting handsomely from trading stocks while in Congress.
“Congressman Byron Donalds can’t be our next governor because he won’t fight for Florida,” said Fishback. “I will. I’ll fight to preserve Governor DeSantis’ wins by keeping Florida free from DEI, radical transgenderism, Soros-backed prosecutors, child predators, voter fraud, and the millions of illegals who invaded our country on Kamala Harris’ watch.”
Fishback describes himself as a fourth-generation Floridian and anti-establishment political outsider. He founded Incubate Debate, a free high school debate league in Miami, FL, in 2019 that has hosted in-person debate tournaments for thousands of students throughout Florida, including most recently at Jacksonville University last month.
“In the coming months, I’m going to meet as many Floridians as I can, where they live, work, and pray,” Fishback says of his campaign plans. “I’ll visit all 67 counties because Florida’s next governor has to be someone you can see, talk to, and even debate with.”
Fishback joins a crowded field, where Donalds has established himself as the favorite after being endorsed by President Trump. Paul Renner, former Florida Speaker of the House, is also running, along with Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett. Lt. Governor Jay Collins has also expressed interest but has yet to announce his candidacy publicly.

His campaign is wrong for Florida on so many levels. To point out a few there is a serious shortage of nurses and doctors in Florida, the H-1B Visas are for professional people like nurses and Doctors to provide care. The current presidents wife who was a model got an H-1B visa, which never should have happened. What we need to to do is make sure that the H-1B Visas are used as they were intended to fill professional shortages, not throw out the baby with the bath water. Doing away with property taxes will take away local rule from controlling our financial needs and put us at the mercy of who ever is in charge in Tallahassee. This is a bad idea. Preventing corporations from controlling the housing stock is actually a good idea if it is implemented correctly. Yes AI data centers use a lot of water, however we should be looking at how to reduce their water demand and increase our ability to get fresh water, perhaps fro desalinization. AI is the future, if we want to remain relevant we need to harness the power of AI to solve complicated problems.
