WASHINGTON — Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has summoned hundreds of the U.S. military’s top generals and admirals to gather at a Marine Corps base in northern Virginia next week. No reason was given for the highly unusual directive.
Military experts expressed confusion about why such a massive gathering of top brass would be announced publicly. The move comes amid a quickly shifting position toward Ukraine being expressed by Trump and his administration in light of increasingly aggressive actions by Russia.
Following a conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in New York this week, Trump suggested that Ukraine could regain all of its territory lost to Russia since the beginning of its war with Russia, a significant shift from his previous position, which advocated for territorial concessions to achieve peace.
Trump wrote in a social media post that with the support of the European Union, financial backing from Europe and NATO, Ukraine could fight and win back all its land "in its original form," while suggesting Russia might be a "paper tiger." Trump cited Russia's economic difficulties due to the war and even suggested Ukraine might not only regain its territory but "go further than that."
Russian drones and fighter jets have increasingly been violating NATO airspace, including recent events in Estonia, Poland, and Romania just this month. Denmark has also been experiencing a number of mysterious drone incursions over its airspace.
The U.S. deployed four F-16 fighter jets, a surveillance aircraft, and four tankers to intercept Russian bombers and fighter jets that had flown into Alaska's air defense identification zone, according to reports citing the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
Additionally, the United States Secret Service discovered a massive hidden telecommunications network in New York capable of crippling cell towers, jamming 911 calls, and flooding networks as nearly 150 world leaders traveled to New York City for the U.N. General Assembly.

I was wondering if you were going to touch on this.
It makes me feel quite unsettled, considering all the loyalty testing I've seen from the current admin. As a person from a family with long tradition of military service, I do not like the disrespectful behavior I have seen in recent days, like using the military to randomly murder people in boats, or being removed from important work to go look like they are solving a made up problem requiring them to be deployed on US soil to do the job of law enforcement.
It looks to me like America is currently being run by frat-boy fantasies and hubris.

Yes Cat...frat boy fantasies and chest bumps to say, "look at me, I'm a tough guy!" This guy is truly dangerous... posting F-16 attack plans all over the world to people who had no need to know, firing not only capable people, but some of the best, requiring news people to get approval to release even unclassified information from the Pentagon...and now this meeting. One would hope it's to go after Russia, but it may be to further abandon Ukraine and every other democracy in the world. Our national security is very certainly in jeopardy with this guy in charge working for a deranged president.
