Federal Whistleblower Investigations "Functionally Collapsed" in 2025

Posted

WASHINGTON — A new 14-year analysis of federal whistleblower investigations reveals an 88% decline in investigation rates since 2018.

Shortly after the law office of Justin Schnitzer, which represents federal employees in employment violation cases, compiled the data, it says the Office of Special Counsel removed its 2025 Performance and Accountability Report from its website. However, they had already secured the original government PDF before it was taken offline and are hosting it as part of their dataset.

The data shows that as of 2025, only 1% of federal whistleblower disclosures are being investigated, even as complaints hit an all-time high. The complete 14-year dataset (along with the archived 2025 OSC report) is available here.
