Editor's Picks: DOGE done screwed up, Bovino the Warlord, Arrests over 2020 election incoming?

Posted

It was another wild week in Washington. Is ICE violating the Constitution? Musk’s DOGE clowns tried to give sensitive information of U.S. citizens to an election denial group, Trump promised arrests for the “rigged” 2020 presidential election, and more.

Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency shared sensitive Social Security data

When Elon Musk rolled out the Department of Government Efficiency, there were almost immediate whistles blown by government workers, who claimed Musk was accessing the private information of U.S. Citizens. Many wondered whether he might be gathering information on employees of his companies who might be attempting to organize, as he's notoriously anti-union. Turns out it was much worse.

The Trump administration admitted in court filings that DOGE shared Social Security data on an unauthorized private server. In a Jan. 16 court filing, the Social Security Administration said that DOGE employees attempted to give sensitive personal records to an unnamed advocacy group seeking to "overturn election results" and sent confidential information on about 1,000 Americans to Musk's workers.

ICE claims its agents can forcibly enter homes during immigration operations without judicial warrants

An internal Immigration and Customs Enforcement document shows that the beleaguered agencies told officers and agents they can forcibly enter homes of people subject to deportation without judicial warrants, which have to be approved and signed by a judge.

The May memo from ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons states that ICE agents may forcibly enter a person’s home with an administrative warrant, which does not require probable cause to be demonstrated. Administrative warrants do not authorize forced entry into homes under longstanding Fourth Amendment jurisprudence.

Meanwhile, a U.S. appeals court lifted a lower court's order restraining federal officers from arresting or tear-gassing peaceful protesters in Minneapolis, where thousands of agents have been deployed despite the objections of state and local leaders.

A group of activists sued the Trump administration in December, arguing that their constitutional rights to protest and observe the enforcement actions had been infringed. Last Friday, a district judge in Minnesota sided with the plaintiffs, issuing a preliminary injunction barring federal immigration agents from retaliating against individuals engaged in nonviolent, unobstructive protests.

Attorney General Pam Bondi praised the appeals court decision, saying the St. Louis-based 8th Circuit had prevented an attempt by Menendez to "handcuff ICE agents who are enforcing the nation's immigration laws and responding to obstructive and violent interference from agitators."

Trump Gets Rolled in Davos, suggests arrests over "the Big Lie" are imminent

President Donald Trump looked tired and defeated as he caved on threats of tariffs and backed off his previous threats to take Greenland by force. The outrage of European leaders and threats to dump U.S. Treasuries, which roiled the markets, seemed to bring the rogue leader to heel.

Trump did, however, throw around a few insults before pivoting to one of his favorite topics, the 2020 election. Despite losing by over 5 million votes, Trump says that it’s now well-known that it was “rigged” and promised the crowd at the World Economic Forum that arrests would be forthcoming.

Bovino is Off the Rails

Greg Bovino, "commander-at-large" of the Border Patrol, has been leaning into his neo-Nazi image. Bovino was described as acting "like a warlord"  as he personally threw tear gas at protestors in Minneapolis. Bovino, who has already been criticized for his very 1930s Germany haircut and using hand signals that look exactly like a Nazi salute, was photographed in a trench coat that happens to look exactly like a Waffen SS Overcoat. Folks, he's literally only missing the mini-mustache at this point.
