DeSantis Vetoes Republicans' Anti-Rooftop Solar Bill

Posted
TALLAHASSEE – On Wednesday, Governor Ron DeSantis took the rare step of vetoing a bill driven by his party, when he took the pen to HB 741, an anti-rooftop solar net metering bill that passed the state legislature along partisan lines last month but had faced ongoing opposition from consumers and environmental groups.

The bill would have phased out incentives for rooftop solar which solar advocates said will greatly reduce consumers' ability to lower their utility bills by selling excess power back to a grid, a process known as net metering.

Environmental groups and solar advocates had strongly denounced the bill from the time it was filed. Senator Jim Boyd (R-Bradenton) voted in favor of the bill, as did Manatee County representatives in the Florida House, Will Robinson and Tommy Gregory (both Republicans).
