Christian Nationalism Doc to Screen at UU of Sarasota May 31

Posted

There will be a free screening of Bad Faith 2026: Christian Nationalism in Power on Sunday, May 31, at 3:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalists of Sarasota (3975 Fruitville Rd).

Bad Faith 2026 is a 77-minute updated version of the original Bad Faith documentary that chronicles Christian Nationalism's influence during Trump's second term. Unlike the original, which streamed on multiple platforms, Bad Faith 2026 is only available through hosted screenings.

The updated version builds on the 2024 film's thesis that Christian Nationalism poses a grave threat to U.S. democracy. Christian Nationalism is a movement that seeks to establish a theocratic state by merging religious identity with political power, often through voter suppression, disinformation, and alliances between evangelical leaders and wealthy donors.

The documentary traces its roots to figures like Paul Weyrich and Jerry Falwell, and to organizations like the Council for National Policy, arguing that the movement gained critical momentum through events like the January 6 insurrection, which it frames as a preview of authoritarian ambitions. Variety named the original version as "One of the 10 Best Movies of 2024."
