Check the Status of Your Mail-in Ballot!

Posted

My husband, Fred Teeter, and I voted by mail. I received an email confirmation, and he didn’t. He checked the status of his ballot on the Elections website and found that it was rejected because his signature didn’t match the one on file.

He has completed the affidavit and plans to hand deliver it to the Elections Office. He probably would not have checked if I hadn’t received my confirmation.

It makes me wonder how many other mail-in ballots will be rejected for frivolous reasons. Thanks for informing your readers that they need to confirm receipt and acceptance after they mail in their ballots.

Having your signature not match what is on file is note a frivolous reason for having your ballot rejected. The election office checks each and every mail in ballot against the signature on file if it doesn’t match its rejected. That’s a safe guard against someone else getting your ballot and voting it for you. You should be grateful that we have these safe guards.

Checking the signature protects your vote from someone else filing in your name. I checked on-line. My vote has been counted.
