Alfred John Levesque, known lovingly to family and friends as Al, passed from this life on September 24, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida, at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of courage, kindness, faith, and devoted service.
Born on November 18, 1940, in Auburn, Maine, Al lived a life marked by steady purpose and a generous spirit. He carried himself with the quiet strength of a man who understood duty, honor, and the importance of treating others with dignity. Those who knew him will remember his warm smile, his friendly nature, and the way he made people feel seen and respected. He was courageous in the face of life’s demands, loving in his relationships, and friendly in every room he entered.
Al served his country as a Veteran of the United States Navy, answering the call to duty with commitment and pride. His service reflected the values that shaped his life, and those values remained with him long after his military years were complete.
He went on to dedicate his professional life to law enforcement with the Alexandria Police Department in Virginia, where he retired after a 30-year, long and distinguished career as Assistant Police Chief. His work was not merely a job, but a calling. He served with integrity, wisdom, and a deep sense of responsibility for the safety and well-being of others. His leadership left a lasting mark on the department and on the many lives he touched throughout his years of service.
Among the honors of his career, Al was selected by the Alexandria Police Department to attend the prestigious 10-week leadership program at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. This recognition spoke to the respect he earned through hard work, discipline, and excellence. It was one more reflection of the trust others placed in him and the high standard he set for himself. He led by example, and his life reminded others that true leadership is rooted in humility, courage, and service.
Al was a devoted Catholic, and his faith was an important part of the way he lived. He understood that life is a gift from God, and he sought to meet each day with gratitude and purpose. His faith gave him strength in difficult times and guided him in seasons of joy. He lived with the assurance that the Lord was with him, and that assurance was evident in the peace, steadiness, and hope he carried. His life stands as a testimony that a faithful heart can bless many others, even in ordinary moments.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Marie Levesque. Their marriage was a beautiful witness to devotion, companionship, and enduring love. Together they built a life filled with shared memories, mutual respect, and the kind of commitment that stands the test of time. Though her passing came before his, their bond remains a treasured part of his story and a source of comfort to those who loved them both.
Al is survived by his sister Cheryl Robbie, his daughters Michele Fenter and Nannette Levesque, three grandchildren, Tiffani, Emily, and Austin, and four great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Abigail, James, and Mikaela. His family was a source of joy and pride, and he cherished each one deeply. He leaves behind not only loved ones, but also a legacy of faith, strength, and example that will continue to guide them. The lessons he taught were not always spoken aloud, but were written clearly in the way he lived, served, and loved.
Those who knew Al will remember a man who was courageous when courage was needed, loving when love was needed, and friendly in a way that made others feel welcome. He was a man of substance and sincerity, and his life reflected the beauty of a heart committed to doing what is right. In both public service and private life, he showed that a life well lived is one that blesses others.
As we remember Alfred John Levesque, we give thanks for the years God granted him and for the example he leaves behind. His earthly journey has ended, but the impact of his life remains. In the words of Helen Keller, “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”
Al’s memory will remain deeply woven into the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know him.
