I would like to go to the Cortez event but with the Green Bridge closed it will take too long to get to Cortez for those of us north of Bradenton. Very disappointed
What super ticks me off is the propensity for many of those same politicians to shout "God" from the hilltops, while lacking and demonstrable alignment with positive action, except when the media provides a spin-op.
Rahn needs to learn the procedures. Get motion, second and then call for vote. NOT. It should be motion, second, citizen comments, commissioner comments then vote. Good for George to interrupt a vote and for allowing the comments.
ACE (Accountability, Civility, Ethics) no longer exists in Manatee County Government. Might as well take off website and off walls in the county buildings. Too many times is there are derogatory digs during the meeting.
Another great podcast, Well done, Mitch and Dawn!
It is so great to hear Cheri’s calm and cool voice, reminding us of how it used to be. I have lived in Manatee County for 25 years and I have worked in local government for most of that time. I left my county job a few years back, but I still try to live by the ACE philosophy. We can turn this misguided ship around if everyone would start paying attention and get out and vote.
If nothing else, at least read the Bradenton Times and go watch The Big Picture on YouTube. You may recognize a few familiar faces.
Keep up the great work!
Well done, Mr. Wright. I plan to forward a copy of your letter with my statement of 100% agreement as a 38 year Manatee resident and voter. Thank you for taking the time to make such a persuasive argument.
This impressive session provided a peek into the issues of Florida agriculture versus development and growth. 1000 Friends of Florida has been providing insight and research into this important issue on an ongoing basis. Jim Strickland has been involved and a strong participant into these programs. Please look at this recent report. https://1000fof.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/FOF-1306-Ag-2040-2070-Report-v4-WEB.pdf Sign up for future programs and get informed. It affects all of us and the future of Florida, and needs to be non-partisan. Ruth Lawler
I would believe Lee Washington over liar Baugh and her cronies Rahn and Mast.. unfortunately Lee was outnumbered....When is the witch pay her 8000.00 fine..NOTHING BUT CORRUPTION IN THIS TOWN
Why are we not putting these contracts out for a competitive bid? Commissioners/staff are circumventing the procurement process just like they did for the methane landfill project. Will the taxpayers now be footing the bill for 2 lawsuits for fair and ethical bidding practices? Also, staff/commissioners used vendor information that was 5 years old and based on 9 school zones in Georgia not a good comparison. A Florida citizen representing a Florida company that also camera tickets drivers, stated that they are not using our county’s fair and competitive bidding process. If this was solely for child safety our commissioners would have addressed this issue 7 months ago when the law changed, so this is clearly not an emergency. Commissioners acted under the guise of “student safety” but it looks a lot like a political favor at the expense of Manatee County taxpayers.
Only Commissioner Kruse (only person representing citizens) questioned why they needed so many additional tax dollars, the rest of our commissioners are not looking out for us and basically had no real input. Bishop stated they needed more money “so it looks like the project is working”. Citizens are not against this project, but they are questioning the amount of additional funds without a real plan. Keith Green, who is running for office, seemed right on board with funding a project on our tax dollars without asking questions, so remember that when you vote.
This is a very good example of how development is deciding on environmental conditions in our state. It's foolish, shortsighted and selfish. People from all over the world are moving here and changing this place to what they think Florida is, and away from what is healthy for it, all the while proclaiming they love Florida. To utterly change things you love is not love.
It's heartbreaking.
My question is who negotiated his severance package? It seems that at least part of Hopes “questionable activities were known by our Manatee Commission yet he was allowed this package? Jim Tierney
Lordy, Lordy. It's so tragic and so laughable. Nothing will happen with this and Manatee County will bounce along on its merry, unethical way until we can get rid of some people and find some with real leadership.
