DeSantis knew about the state park projects well in advance. According to the Tampa Bay Times article he fast-tracked a swap of 324 acres Withlacoohe state forest to Cabot Citus, a neighboring golf resort. Cabot is to expand their resort. There was no discussion at the DeSantis meeting about environmental impact or public input. It was on purpose that the two “projects “ were launched separately. I believe the state park project was a cover for the swap.
During WWII, my father was stationed at Sarasota Army Airfield. He was a Corporal in the Army Air Corps, and was assigned to repair and maintain aircraft. In 1951, my Dad and Mom moved from cold St. Louis, Mo. with 3 small children to enjoy a life in Florida's warmer climate. I was two years old. Ruth Lawler
Couldn't agree more. Selling SRQ land is a risk to the future of the airport. As it is SRQ is surrounded by urbanized land... limiting types of aircraft it can handle due to runway & approach limitations... don't shorten it's live span with more of the same urbanization. Some of us are old enough to know what must happen to older airports surrounded by developing urbanization... for those in my age bracket... remember Chicago's Midway... choked by city growth, now for domestc and commuter flights only - international flights go from O'Hare; remember Washington D.C.'s National Airport, naturally limited by location on the Potomac River... distant Dulles Airport needed for international travel. So okay, Sarasota is already basically a domestic airport... international only for the Carribbean and parts of Mexico, but don't shorten it's capabilities further by taking land away...
Lets go to Plan B for now. I have been following Stephen for years and have built using his method. It works! As a certified Florida building contractor I can attest to this method.

BTW - Floridians generated so much interest in this that they had to reschedule the meetings to the first week in September. Way to go, us!
From the Florida Wildlife Federation ...
"The groundswell of opposition is working thanks to YOUR 165,230 emails sent!
Due to your advocacy, Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) has had to reschedule and look for new locations for the public meetings for the nine state park development plans.
On Friday, August 23rd, FDEP announced via X (twitter) that due to an “overwhelming interest” in the 2024-25 Great Outdoors Initiative they will have to find new venues to accommodate the public. "
Satcher was unqualified from the get-go; to tell the truth he was as unqualified as a county commissioner as well. The citizens of this county suffered through the incompetency on this individual in both positions. I’ve already sent Governor DeSantis a stern letter on his poor decision making and yet to receive a response.
The other developer backed puppet commissioners jumped for joy when this buffoon got appointment and lavishly approved $800,000 for him not having not a clue what the money was for.
We all know what happened to those three of those puppets, and only three more to go. I suspect he will be spending a lot of time in the confessional booth for his nasty deeds and uncouth behavior as a human being much less an appointed official.
He not only fell from grace from the voters of manatee county he also fell from grace from the developers who lavishly supporting his lifestyle. He will soon find out that he has no "puppet value" anymore and his strings and money will be cut.
For the Record
As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him,
Titus 3:10
It was a great day for Manatee County citizens. A clean sweep for the citizens of Manatee County in the county commission races. No longer will we be marginalized in silenced by the existing board of County commissioners. We have spoken, and we have spoken loudly. We will continue the queen sweep in two years, if the remaining commissioners continue their bad behavior and do not represent the citizens that voted them in in the first place. For the Record
I'm going to watch 8/22 Land Use meeting to just see how KVO and ass Bearden act. Bearden needs help. and now that his mentor lost, how will he respond. Cops called when he was at a precinct and harassing people. It's not over but at least KVO and Satcher are gone. Those were the 2 I was most keyed on as I live in Bayshore Gardens area and not up until 3026. Hackney was a no brainer. Surprised some thought to race against him. 32 years no complaints, no issues.
I am quite disappointed with Bradenton Times in NOT endorsing Heather Felton. She has nine years experience as a school teacher in Manatee County School system. She has spent many months over this past year studying the budget and operations of Manatee County Schools. She has resided in Manatee County well over 20 years, and both of her children have attended Manatee County Schools from first grade to graduation. She is a strong advocate for students, teachers and parents. She has received endorsement from teachers locally. Her opponent has NEVER taught in a school classroom anywhere. He is an outsider from a corporate background, NOT an educational institution background. I certainly hope Bradenton Times corrects this error in judgement. Ruth Lawler
District 1 Manatee Count School Board, it is clear to me that Heather Felton is the ONLY qualified candidate of the three, as she has NINE years of classroom teaching in Manatee County Public Schools. Her passion for quality education and for support of teachers, kids and parents is amazing. Ruth Lawler
It is sad that HT has let down our community by endorsing KVO. Apparently, developer donations are worth more than the community that they serve. After I started watching BOCC meetings in 2016, I sadly discovered that our local print paper was not always accurately covering meetings nor were they covering the most important topics discussed at the meetings. Neither were the local news channels. This was when we discovered TBT, who has ALWAYS accurately discussed the issues in our county, provided proof, and commentary on the issues. We love podcasts, especially when you discuss all the things that you can’t necessarily fit into the articles. We value TBT and we appreciate and applaud your efforts!
