Thanks for writing about this. It's super important. Also a good idea for people to keep this article handy when they go house hunting so they remember to consider both when buying a home.

Carol Felts brings decades of knowledge and experience not only to our community but actually listening to the citizens of Manatee County for as long as well. This is Carol's third run at a commissioner position and it's time the voters give her a seat at the table, she has earned that right. Another big plus practically none of the other candidates have done is showing up for public comment at not only county commissioner meetings and numerous advisory boards as well. Carol has gone to many many meetings over the years almost as many as the Gadfly has. That speaks volumes to this citizen. Carol is the only choice in the WTF opinion. Carol’s slogan...UNBOUGHT & UNBOSSED!

The following is information from the League of Women Voters: VOTE BY MAIL (VBM) USPS has told the Manatee Supervisor of Elections (SOE) that they have delivered VBM Ballots where they were able to deliver. VBM Ballots that could not be delivered are being held in the Palma Sola Post Office, 115 75th St W, Bradenton 34209. To change your address for VBM, call the Supervisor of Elections office at (941) 741-3823. A number of voters have evacuated to a different address or have gone to another location to assist friends or relatives. A new VBM ballot will be mailed out to the temporary address requested. Even if you requested a VBM, and you have not sent in your ballot, you can vote early or on election day without being in possession of the VBM ballot. You may vote at any early voting location, but if you vote election day, you must go to your precinct. To find that location, go to votemanatee.gov, and click on the "Where do I vote" icon.

Truth! We don’t care what the political hack has to say. We are interested in factual information regarding what the citizens need to know. Keep up the political antics-the citizens will remember when it is time to vote the rest of the remaining crooks out!

Does the HR budget include KVO’s buddy’s HR company as a third party? Does anyone know the status of that “contract?”

That’s not a fair question. Hurricane Debby was so much smaller it did not affect the entire SW Florida as significantly as Helene. So even though there was far more damage. It was not due to the Government. People had advanced warning. In fact the county officials drew down Lake Manatee so that it would not Cause a disastrous flood in that area. It shocked me that they actually governed instead of bickering.

Thank you for including Palmetto. We often get overlooked, and there is little media coverage about us. It also doesn't help that the city doesn't even have a social media account and their website has no current news.

I agree with many of the things you say about Siddique However, the fact that early on he came out and endorsed Trump is very troublesome. As a BOCC candidate weighing in on the presidential race is not necessary and reeks of pandering to the MAGA base. Further, he has dealt with other issuers not germane to county governance. Is he setting himself up in the eyes of voters as a candidate for offices more grandiose than BOCC and is this office just a steppingstone? All in all my concerns about pandering and the BoCC being just a short stop on his way to other political offices mean I cannot vote for him. Shoemaker has none of that baggage and is a stronger candidate in so many ways. She’s got my vote!!

The barrier islands shift with changes made by nature. Humans usually are unhappy with change. Nature always will win the battles humans wage to make things "permanent". The development on these barrier islands or "keys" never should have been "permanent" residential structures — that has been well-known, but ignored — transitory recreational getaways without expectation of storm survival (or insurance) among the domains of the critters would have been the only rational human use while the barrier islands remain above the water. Likely, the pass will dance about until the keys are sandbars at best, perhaps with artifacts to be discovered during future underwater archaeological exploration to document our era. One hundred years of foolish development might leave a trace, who knows?

I'm pretty sure it is still illegal to treat a minor without parental or guardian consent.

Isn't it Rick Scott who first forbade anyone from mentioning climate change in his administration as governor? He finally caught up and now he wants credit? I don't think so.

A lot of word salad and platitudes here. I too read Atlas Shrugged and I have 8 decades of perspective on the changes in our society. I can remember being in 9th grade civics class and the teacher explaining that our work force was changing from a blue collar workforce to a services dominated workforce over time. I also remember Alvin Toffler's book Future Shock that stated that change in our society was accelerating and that the most important thing we should do as students is learn how to adapt to rapid change. Russia has its oligarchs and we have our capitalists they are cut from the same cloth just different names. Over government has bent a knee to the capitalists and has promoted their wealth over the public interest. Health Care is a prime example as we pay double per Capita for care compared to any other advanced country. Our Medication costs are absurd compared to Canada and the rest of the world. We have a critical shortage of healthcare professionals and our hole system is designed for profit not quality. It isn't the fault of the hard working doctors and nurses, it is the corporate greed that is running the system with the assistance of both parties in our federal and state governments. Until we start voting the real issues instead of the irrational party lines this will continue.

I'm all for the increase. You can hardly go anywhere in the country and not find a bed tax, many at 10% or more and there not even destination vacation spots. Anytime Manatee County citizens do not have to dip in our pockets it's a win for us. Do you really think a 1% increase will make any difference to the folks visiting us, I would think not. Nobody is going to cancel their vacation over 1% Tourist use our roads and other infrastructure that the taxpayers of manatee pay for and get a free ride. .... For the Record

Please vote NO on Amendment 2.Killing animals by so-called "traditional methods" should not be a Constitutional right. Iron leg snares are a traditional method, so is poisoning and any number of other cruelties. Florida already allows for the killing of bears with impunity. Florida also banned the sale of synthetic meat, interfering with the free market to take away the right to choose a cruelty-free protein. We don't need a right to be more barbaric in killing. We should be moving toward a more humane and conservation minded treatment of wildlife, Amendment 2 keeps Florida is moving in the wrong direction.

I suggest folks look at the Florida State statute that states: “(d) The pregnancy is the result of ****, incest, or human trafficking and the gestational age of the fetus is not more than 15 weeks as determined by the physician. At the time the woman schedules or arrives for her appointment to obtain the abortion, she must provide a copy of a restraining order, police report, medical record, or other court order or documentation providing evidence that she is obtaining the termination of pregnancy because she is a victim of ****, incest, or human trafficking. If the woman is 18 years of age or older, the physician must report any known or suspected human trafficking to a local law enforcement agency. If the woman is a minor, the physician must report the incident of ****, incest, or human trafficking to the central abuse hotline as required by s. 39.201.” You can find the statute at. http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0300-0399/0390/Sections/0390.0111.html
