I have not attended any Urbanite productions to date. No reason other than I live in Manatee and they have not been on my radar. Going forward I am going to be an enthusiastic supporter. and attend everything they offer. Good for you Urbanite for standing your ground. We need more community entities to stand on principle.

Florida, the fraud state lead nearly exclusively by Republicans. Will the sheep keep voting for the wolves in a few weeks?

Thanks Mitch. I can now cross this guy off my list.

Thank you for your insight on some of the ramifications of this amendment. Sadly many voters will be short sited and see nothing but false tax savings. Amendment 3 will put the power of the purse in Tallahassee instead of local control. There is no such thing as a free lunch, local approved projects will be cut and Tallahassee will impose other forms of taxation to make up for the loss of revenue by the Counties. This is a power grab, not a boon for tax payers.

The FDOH comparison is an apples to oranges comparison. The north east area of the bay has low water flow, the horse wading and homes around this area most likely contribute to the bacteria. The FDOH testing site is in a high flow deep water area. Common sense, which actually isn't very common, dictates that the north west area of Palma Sola Bay would be more susceptible to bacteria pollution.

So this is what Manatee County Sheriff is doing with our millions in tax dollars. This is not the "free state of Florida," it's the police state of Florida. Thank you Republicans.

Thank you Dawn! Just under two hours until the polls close tonight but always, FOLLOW THE MONEY! As we head towards the November 3rd General Election, be sure you don't focus on what they say or what campaign trash/recycling material appears in your mailbox. Focus on WHO is funding campaigns. Politicians will always say one thing while they're campaigning but once in office they will do what they've been paid to do by those who donate large amounts to their campaign. This can absolutely hold true for candidates from both parties. Remember, money talks and B.S. walks.

Thank you so much for this in-depth explanation of how and on what criteria your publication and editors arrive at your candidate endorsements. I look forward to your candidate analysis each election cycle. I find it so helpful that I share links to your endorsements and related opinion coverage on our community Facebook page to help our neighbors make informed decisions also. Not everyone follows local issues closely, which is important when elections come along. Thank you again, and let's hope the candidates who will best serve our communities get elected!

They might consider moving it up to east Manatee and building it right next to Bradenton Motorsports and McFarland's Freedom Factory track. Very few panthers in that area and it has been subject to loud noise and bright lighting for fifty years. Lots of open land.

I held a sign at two early voting location in Sarasota County last week. My sign read "I can't Vote, Ask me Why". Several people did. I told them that I am a registered voter who will not be forced to join a political party to vote. I can only vote for non-partisan positions such as Hospital Board and School Board. Note: our state legislators are trying to also make those partisan positions. I am a first class taxpayer but a second class voter. I pay the costs of the election but have limited voting rights. If Republican and Democrats want to have private primary elections, let them pay for them. Our election system is not working in the best interests of voters. We need election reforms like open primary elections, proportional representation and ranked choice voting.

Taxes should be law, NOT A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT! We are screwed and stuck if Amendment 3 passes. Amendment 3 guts local control and locks in permanent financial damage. Taxes need flexibility to respond promptly to emergencies (Florida IS prone to state AND local emergencies), economic downturns, population changes and new infrastructure needs. And if Amendment 3 turns out to be a disaster, fixing it is almost impossible. To even place a correction on the ballot, both the Florida House and Senate must approve it by a three‑fifths vote — 60% in each chamber. Then it must wait for the next election. Then it must pass statewide by 60%. Constitutional fixes in Florida are intentionally hard, slow, and rare. By the time a correction makes it through that gauntlet, years of damage will already be baked in. Tax policy needs to be fixable. Constitutions are not fixable. Vote NO.
