Certain people within the city government have been trying to sell the building for years. Back in 2014 there was a very popular exhibit in the auditorium drawing 7000-8000 people a month downtown (working models of Leonardo da Vinci inventions). Despite those numbers, they decided not to allow a permanent lease because they were thinking of selling the building. Within two years they stopped leasing it out altogether--said the auditorium was too expensive to maintain. (If interested, track down Bradenton Herald articles of 17 Jul 14 and 15 Oct 16.) Nobody talks about those economic benefits.
