Yes on 301 Flyover

Posted

Your focus on the flyover is spot on. The only change from the original idea of starting it at the intersection of 301 and 41, would be to start it at the foot of the DeSoto Bridge.

This should appease the concerns of the Riviera Dunes community, and it wouldn’t booger up the view of the new Hotel and renovated Convention Center. This way, the road could be within the current footprint of Hwy. 41, and not disrupt any residential neighborhoods at all.

Another area that the county needs to think about would be extending State Road 70 (53rd Ave.) out to and over the Intra-Coastal Waterway, which would land at the south end of Coquina Beach. This would alleviate a tremendous amount of congestion.

Looking further into the future, when this extension is built, a monorail or the equivalent should be integrated into the median, which could extend all the way out to Lakewood Ranch and provide easy access to the Barrier Island beaches.
