U.S. citizens Lali and Beng are being held prisoner in a small, dirty cement cell. Where have they been taken? How much time has passed? Are they alive? Has their story been broadcast to the world? How did they get here? What will happen to them? You'll find out in No One is Forgotten, the next production from Urbanite Theatre, which opens March 21.
"This is a play that I would categorize as Urbanite at its best, meaning that it’s text-focused and actor-focused," says Producing Artistic Director Summer Wallace, who will direct the production. "We meet the characters, Lali and Beng, as they’re held hostage and witness them relying on each other to survive an impossible situation."
Playwright Winter Miller said the play is inspired by true accounts of the plight of captured and detained journalists and aid workers. For the production, Urbanite has partnered with Hostage US, a nonprofit organization that supports both family members of current captives and people returning from captivity by connecting them to care, resources, and institutions that can assist them during and after the crisis.
"Part of telling a story truthfully is ensuring you have a comprehensive understanding of the subject," said Wallace. "Hostage US has been an incredible resource thus far, providing resources and offering their time to our cast to answer questions."
