James Adams (Jim), resident of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on April 8, 2024, at the age of 85. Born and raised in Irvington, NJ, he lived the majority of his adult life in Springfield, NJ before moving to Florida.

Jim is survived by his stepchildren Matthew Ruane and Leslie Cifelli, and his grandchildren, Louis, Christa, Samantha, and Oscar. He is predeceased by his loving wife Helen, his sister Patricia and brother-in-law Gabe.

Jim attended Seton Hall University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. In 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served as a Sergeant in the 25th Infantry Division. After his honorable discharge, he embarked on a successful career with Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company in Newark, NJ, until his retirement in 1997.

James was deeply committed to education and community service. From 1968 to 1977, he served on the Springfield Board of Education, where he was elected to three consecutive 3-year terms. During his tenure, he held several key chairman positions, including of the Finance, Building and Grounds and School Government Committees. From 1973 to 1976, he served as the Recreation Director for the Township.

James's love for sports extended to his involvement with the Springfield Junior Baseball Leagues, Inc. He wore multiple hats within the organization, serving as Manager, League Director, and Director of Umpires. As a dedicated umpire, James was also a member of the New Jersey State Baseball Umpires Association. His keen eye and impartial judgment contributed to the integrity of the game.

Off the field, Jim was a proud Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, Monsignor Francis X. Coyle Council 5560 in Springfield. Additionally, Jim held a special place in his heart for the 25th Infantry Division.

James Adams leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, and community spirit. His memory will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. To honor him, the family requests donations to the Tidewell Foundation, 3550 S Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34239.
