Bradenton's Carnes Wins Gold at World Championships

Manatee High grad competed on Team USA's men's 4x100 meter relay team

BUDAPEST — At the 2023 World Athletics Championships, Saturday in Budapest, Hungary, Bradenton native and Manatee High grad Brandon Carnes became a world champion as a member of Team USA's men's 4x100 meter relay team.

The USA men's and women's 4x100 meter squads each took home gold. It marked just the third time that the U.S. swept the events at worlds and the first since 2007.

Carnes attended the University of Northern Iowa, where he was a bronze medalist in the 100m at the 2022 NACAC Championships and a gold medalist as a member of the American 4x100m relay.

Prior to being selected for the world team, Carnes reached the final of the 100m competition at the 2023 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, in Eugene, Oregon, finishing fourth overall.
