The Biofile: Connor Joe

Posted
Connor Joe is an outfielder and first baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has previously played in MLB for the San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies. Joe was drafted by the Pirates in the first round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft.
Status: Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder/first baseman.

DOB:  August 16, 1992  In: San Diego, CA

First Baseball Memory:  Front yard with my dad playing catch.

Baseball Inspirations:  Growing up in San Diego watching baseball at dinner every night pretty much... Tony
Gwynn, Ken Caminiti.

First Player You Met Or Encountered:  I met Trevor Hoffman when I was pretty young. I grew up with Phil Plantier's son. Phil Nevin was around my area too.

Last Book Read:  I'm reading a book called Whole-Brain Child (12 Revolutionary Strategies To Nurture Your Child's Mind by Dr. Dan Siegel).

Greatest Career Moment:  I hit a home run on July 20, 2021 and that was a one year anniversary for being declared cancer-free. So that was pretty cool (in Colorado).

Most Painful Moment:  Tough one... I haven't really thought about that too much. Probably being in spring training in 2020 and having to go home diagnosed with cancer.

Favorite Ballparks:  I really enjoy playing in PNC.

Favorite Uniforms:  The Phillies powder blue are really cool.

Why Do You Love Baseball:  It's a cool sport because it's a team sport. You break it down, it becomes a one on one battle pitcher vs hitter. There's definitely games within the game - all contributing to hopefully a team victory. So smaller games within the big game. And still I love that it's a team sport.

Favorite Athletes To Watch:  Tony Gwynn. Now it's fun to watch Acuna, Mookie Betts. I like those guys.
Funny Baseball Memory:  I laugh every day. I think that sort of stuff is in the clubhouse, just being around the guys and enjoying every time you get into a new city. When you're traveling, get someone up in front of the bus and that's pretty enjoyable, pretty memorable [smiles].

Strangest Game:  There was a strange game in Chicago when I was with the Rockies. We were delayed, ended up playing a doubleheader, it was raining. There was hardly anyone in the crowd, it was wet. It was a long game, a long day.

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor:  I like salty caramel.

Favorite Artist:  I like a lot of artists, I'm really into music so I'll go that avenue... there's so many... I'll go with Zach Bryan right now.

People Qualities Most Admired:  Someone you can trust. Trust is big with me. Someone genuine. Same person everyday, no matter what's going on. Someone that's accountable.
