GSgt. John H. Barley, USMC (Ret.), 75, of Ellenton, passed away March 8, 2011. He was born in Manheim, Pennsylvania and came to Ellenton 30 years ago from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He handled aviation ordinance in the U.S. Marine Corps serving three tours of duty in Vietnam and was a member of the Marine Corps League. He is survived by his brother, Norman Barley of Palmetto, sister, Betty Koby of Ellenton, nieces, Mary Hansen of Alpharetta, Georgia, Julie Woolary of Reddington Shores, Florida, Betty Romeo of Nashville, Tennessee, Louise Amato of San Diego, California, and Linda Stephenson of Grants Pass, Oregon, longtime friend, Peggy Baker of Ellenton, friends and comrades, Major Victor Dietz, USMC (Ret.) and GSgt. Ray Mulholland, UMSC (Ret.).
Funeral Information:
Visitation was held on Saturday, March 12, 2011, 10:00-11:00 AM at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel 1015 14th St. W. Bradenton. Funeral services followed at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with full military honors. Inurnment will be at a later date in Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the USMC Toys for Tots foundation. Shannon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
