Walter Sobek

Walter ‘’Wally’’ S. Sobek, 71, Bradenton, passed away February 8, 2012. Wally was born on March 22, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Walter & Julia (Jamrog) Sobek. He moved to Bradenton in 1970 coming from Chicago. He was retired from the Bradenton Fire Department after more than 22 years of service, and was a member of the Bradenton Fire Fighters Association. He attended the St. Bernard Catholic Church in Holmes Beach and was an avid fisherman in both the Manatee County and Lake Okeechobee areas. Wally was predeceased by his loving wife Jacqueline in January of 2002, and is survived by his companion, Rose Uselding of Bradenton, son; Scott Sobek of Holmes Beach, daughter, Laura (Monty) Hardesty of Bradenton, brother, Larry ( Cheryl) Sobek of Chicago, Ill, and three grandchildren; Shannon, Sean Hardesty and Taylor Buddy. 

The family will received friends on Friday from 6-8 P.M. at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W., Bradenton. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 1:00 P.M at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 248 South Harbor Drive, Holmes Beach. Committal services followed at Skyway Memorial Gardens, Palmetto. The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to TideWell Hospice in his memory.
