Vera Bennett

Name: Vera Bennett
Locaton: Bradenton

Date of Death: January 18, 2014
Age at death: 84

Vera Margaret Bennett was born on Feb. 4, 1929, in Michigan. God took her to be with Him, January 18, 2014, at Blake Hospital in Bradenton, Florida, after several years of dealing with various medical challenges. Vera lived a very full and productive life, especially within her professional career, Church activities, and creative endeavors. She began her educational studies at Asbury College in Kentucky, and completed them at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She worked as a teacher for the United States Army for several years, and then as a teacher and Elementary School Principal for Lamphere Public Schools in Madison Heights, Michigan.

As a Principal, Vera was always on the cutting edge of implementation of the latest research in teaching and learning. She was deeply motivated to help children learn by the death during brain surgery of her infant son, Mark. She was dedicated to communication with the parents of her students, many of whom still keep in touch with her. Vera was a frequent professional speaker at Educational Conferences, held leadership roles in the Michigan Elementary and Secondary Principals’ Association, and co-authored multi-media materials for teaching reading, math, and perceptual skills to children with learning disabilities.

For as long as she could, Vera used her special gift of singing to bring joy to others as a soloist, and especially to praise God in Church Choirs. After Retirement, she often continued to use her teaching skills as a Bible Study teacher. Vera was always ready and able to witness to her faith in Jesus Christ. Within her Church family, about 15 years ago, she organized a group that focused on the needs of single women, called “Coterie”. Predeceased by her parents; son, Mark Robison; survived by sister, Vivian ''Marge'' Beam of Cheboygan, MI; nieces, Marjie (Bruce) Simms of Shiloh, IL, Sallie (Steve) Shaw of Marietta, GA and Barbara (Karin) Beam of Columbia, SC; nephew, Ralph Beam of Punta Gorda, FL and several great nieces and nephews.
