Richard Cotton Packard, 86, died September 9, 2009. Born in Manhattan, New York, he moved to Bradenton in 1999 from Delray Beach, Florida.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy Underwater Demolition Team during World War II , a recipient of the Silver Star, a member of the Rotary, and an Episcopalian.
He worked for PPG Industries, was an avid writer, a self published novelist, and a passionate Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Predeceased by wife of 43 years, Patricia Hawkes Packard, he is survived by wife, Mary Ellen of Bradenton, FL; sons, Peter (Marilyn) Townsend of Nevillewood, PA; Dr. Andrew (Gina) Packard of Rhinebeck, NY, Nicholas Packard of China; daughter, Mary Cotton (David) Sullivan of Lexington, KY; brother Edward (Sarah) of East Hampton, NY; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren.
Funeral Information:
Gathering of friends will be 1:00-2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 12, 2009 with Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 P.M. at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 26th Street Chapel 5624 26th Street West, Bradenton, FL 34207.
