Obituary:

Mary Ellen Crisler Whaley, 92, of Bradenton, FL, formerly of Bloomington, IN, died Wednesday February 13, 2013.  She was devoted to education as a volunteer in her daughters? schools, an administrator in the Monroe County Community School Corporation, and the wife of two teachers.  In 1970 she was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Merrill L. Crisler, and her second spouse, Leon E. Whaley, passed away in 2009, after 31 years of marriage.  In recent years she enjoyed the companionship of Gerhard Quaas, of Bradenton, FL.

Survivors include daughters, Jane Crisler of Waukesha, WI and Julie Crisler-Raub of St.Croix, USVI; grandsons, Edward (Ted) Raub of Tampa, FL and Matthew Raub of St.Croix, USVI; and two stepsons, Ronald Whaley of Phoenix, AZ and L. Alan Whaley of Indianapolis, IN.

After raising her family in Muncie and Bloomington, IN, Mary retired to Bradenton, FL where she and her husband, Leon, spent many happy years. They especially enjoyed ballroom dancing and parties with friends.  They moved to Freedom Village in 2003, where Mary enjoyed bridge, reading books on her Kindle, and the menus of the dining room chef.  Known for her impeccable hairstyle and carefully chosen wardrobe (with special attention to shoes), family members encourage friends to commemorate her life by spending fun times with family and friends, enjoying good food, drink and music.

Living with cancer for more than a decade, Mary was especially grateful to Dr. Robert Whorf and the staff of the Florida Cancer Specialists for their excellent medical care and convivial friendship.  They gave her precious years of joyful life.  In lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation, 4371 Veronica S. Shoemaker Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33918.

Services will be private.  Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, 43rd Street Chapel 604 43rd Street West Bradenton, FL is in charge of arrangements.
