Obituary:

Josephine (DiSapio) Cascio, 92, of Perico Isles, Bradenton, passed away at Blake Medical Center on Feb. 18, 2012. She will be sorely missed and always remembered. She was born in Greenwich, CT on Feb. 2, 1920 to the late Angelo DiSapio and Francesca (Cicerillo) DiSapio. She attended Greenwich public schools graduating from Greenwich high school in 1938. After weathering the great '38 hurricane in New London CT, Josie graduated from Lawrence and Memorial Nursing School in 1941 as a Registered Nurse (RN) and worked as a RN for Lawrence and Memorial Hospital retiring as a supervisor. She was married from 1942 to Anthony F. Cascio until his death in 2000. They spent most of their 58 years of married life on Myrock Avenue in Waterford, CT. She and her husband wintered in South Carolina, Alabama, Arizona and then finally settled in Florida for the last 16 years. She enjoyed keeping up with family and friends, working outside in her flower gardens, crocheting, doing crafts (especially with shells she found along Florida beaches) and having lunch with her friends in Florida. Josie is survived by two sisters, Mary Caputo and Kay Mills and a brother, Alfred DiSapio from Greenwich, CT; three sons, Carl and Joseph Cascio of Waterford, CT and Anthony Frank Cascio Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Centreville, VA; two granddaughters, Denise Cassella of Los Altos, CA who followed her grandmother into nursing and Shelley Wise of Rising Sun, MD, a grandson, David Cascio of Virginia Beach, VA and eight great-grandchildren, Jessie, Bryan, Kristi, Kyle, Christopher, Stephan, Aaron and Jonathan. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles DiSapio and her husband Tony. 



Funeral Information:

Family and friends were invited to visit the Shannon Funeral Home at 5610 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton at 10 am on Tuesday February 21, 2012 for a memorial service and then proceeded to her home for a reception celebrating Josie's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing Alumni Association, 15 Glenwood Park South, New London, CT 06320.
