George “Butch” Burke, 74, of Bradenton, passed away at his home and went to be with the Lord on October 23, 2013 with his wife, Sandi Burke and sister, Betty Cavasina by his side. He was born December 28, 1939 in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania. Butch was a hard working man, warm and affectionate, and loved unconditionally by all. He loved babies, hugs and kisses and brought a smile to most everyone’s face that had the opportunity to be around him. He was always making jokes and made the best of everything, even to the end, no matter how weak or sick he was. His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren loved him with all their heart and he will be greatly missed.Butch and Sandi were married for 39 years and between the two of them had 5 children, Deserie Marshall, Rhonda Ellis, Angela Tucker, Michelle Rickert, and George “Butch” Burke, Jr. He also had 16 wonderful grandchildren, Chaz Fitzgerald, Chelsea Rose, Josh McCoy, Shelby Hertel, Jeffery Ellis, Shawna Ellis, Robert Tucker, Seth Tucker, Noel Burke, Kara Marcus, Gideon Rickert, Nate Rickert and Gabe Rickert, Johnny Burke, Steven Burke, Shawn Burke. In addition to that he also had 6 great grandkids, Phoenix Fitzgerald, Ashton Rose, Xavier Rose, Kalem Rose, Tyson Rose and Tristanlea McCoy. Butch served in the 82nd Airborne of the United States Army from 1958-1961. After that he worked in the construction industry installing drywall and flooring for most of his life. Butch did most of his growing up in O'Donnell Heights in Baltimore, Maryland and came to Florida in 1973, where he met Sandi. Between 1973 and 1993 Butch and Sandi made their home between Baltimore and Bradenton and then in 1993 they settled in Bradenton. Butch was a devout Christian. He and Sandi attended Palma Sola Bay Baptist Church for 20 years, and later joined Bayside Community Church. Butch accepted Jesus as his savior at 34 years old and never looked back, loving the Lord for the rest of his life. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now in heaven.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Fri. Oct 25, 2013 at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd St West, Bradenton, FL 34209.
