Charles Fredrick ''Fred'' Martell, 87, went to be with his Savior from his home in Bradenton on October 9, 2013. Born in Somerville, MA, he moved to Florida in 1948. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dolly; daughter, Dottie Warnock(Tom)of Pendleton, SC; sons, Gary(Sandra) of Bradenton, Steve(Maria) of Lima, Peru; 8 grandchildren, Michael Martell, Sara Warnock Moss, Jonathan Warnock, Melissa, Kristen, Stefano, Tabitha, and Dorothy Martell; 3 great-grandsons, Andrew Moss, Luke Moss and Jon Adams; nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. Known affectionately to his grandchildren and great-grandsons as ''Grampie'', his great joy was to see his children grow up and to spend time with family and friends. Fred is preceded in death by one son, Charles Frederick Martell, Jr.; parents, Harry and Florence; 11 brothers, 1 sister. A decorated World War II Veteran (United States Navy Seabees), and a Master Mason, Fred retired from United States Treasury Department as a United States Customs Agent Supervisor. Active in the community and Baptist Church, Fred coached Khoury League baseball, served as a choir member, Children’s Choir leader, Youth Ministry Assistant, and on the Hospitality Committee. Kind, compassionate, gentle and generous, he will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Fred’s Life Masonic Memorial Services with Scottish Rites by the Manatee Masonic Lodge 31 will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 3 pm at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rdStreet Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Warnock officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will be at the Florida National Cemetery at 3 pm on Friday, October 18, 2013. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the D. A.
