This week, protesters continued to organize and share information
related to the cause. Open forums were held on topics such as credit
unions as alternatives to traditional commercial banking. The
group said in a statement on their website, that while the media has
shined a light on some of the abuses endured by protesters, overall they
have received overwhelming support and solidarity.

More than a hundred protestors lined up along Bayfront Park in Sarasota
for the continued protest of our country's financial system last Saturday.
The movement, which began with an "occupation" of the Bank of America
building in downtown SRQ the week before, is quickly gaining momentum
with
Occupy demonstrations having now occured in over 1,500 cities in
the past month.

Contributing Photographer Dale Ann Clancy narrowly escaped Occupy Times Square with her freedom. Clancy was cuffed by NYPD after an overflowing crowd (and desire for the best shot) pushed her into the street. Fortunately, police let her go once she was able to offer her press credentials, but Clancy's impression was that the demonstration was much less organized than Zuccotti Park, where protestors received training on safe and effective civil disobedience.

much attention given to breast cancer and other diseases affecting
women, prostate cancer is not always given the attention it deserves.
However, September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and a local group
of physicians from WellSpring Oncology is shining a spotlight on this
all too unspoken disease by inviting the community to join the fight.

For nearly two years, Mary Miles experienced fainting spells. She never
knew when they would strike; in her room, while out to dinner or simply
just walking. Miles would start to feel ill and pass out where she
stood. The 87-year-old Venice resident knew it had something to do with
her heart, but no medication seemed to work in stopping the spells from
occurring. At one point, her doctor even thought they were due to
overmedication and reduced her dosages. But one episode of fainting
landed her in the emergency room - and revealed the true culprit behind
these attacks.

Florida’s immigrant rights groups remain skeptical about the Department
of Homeland Security’s (DHS) recent announcement that it would review
the cases of 300,000 persons currently in deportation proceedings. Even though, the
new policy is a step in “the right direction” toward immigration reform, much remains unknown about the criteria DHS plans to use in this
process, according to The Florida Immigrant Coalition.
