7A Sarasota will be an underdog when they come into John Kiker Memorial Stadium to face 5A Southeast High. Though the Seminoles put four players into Division I programs last season, they are again stacked at skill positions. Undefeated at 3-0, they've outscored opponents 96-38 so far this season. Looking to go into the big game with Manatee next week undefeated, the 'Noles are sure to bring their A-game for TBT's High School Game of the Week.

In the last three seasons, three teams have entered Hawkins Stadium to face the Manatee Hurricanes while ranked number one in the nation. Twice (St. Thomas Aquinas in '09 and H.B. Plant in '10) the teams left in defeat. Don Bosco Prep, a national powerhouse that has now won 37 in a row and 112 of their last 116, almost became the third when they traveled to Bradenton Friday night for a national high school football showcase. more»

To say that the event at Hawkins Stadium Friday night is huge, would be a monumental understatement. When our Manatee Hurricanes play host to the consensus number-one high school football program in the nation, Don Bosco Prep, they will have an opportunity to make history. In the rare role of underdog, coach Joe Kinnan and this year's 'Canes will shoot to knock off one of the most successful teams in all of high school football over the past decade.

The Bradenton Marauders, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, dropped the opener of the Florida State League playoffs 4-2 to the St. Lucie Mets at McKechnie Field. Up 2-0 in the sixth, the Marauders let the lead slip, allowing runs in each the sixth and seventh innings to tie the score at two.

In just their second season or existence, the Bradenton Marauders, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, drew a total regular season attendance of 103,978 fans in 2011.  The number doubles the inaugural season attendance of 51,856.

Manatee County had baseball fever early on. There are records of organized teams in Palmetto as early as 1908.  Soon major league teams would utilize the mild weather conditions of Florida’s west coast for spring training. It all started in 1914, when a former Pittsburg laundryman by the name of Al Lang championed a drive to St. Petersburg in order to persuade the St. Louis Browns to train there. R.M. Beall, founder of Beall’s Department Store, would soon follow suit and put Palmetto and Bradenton on the baseball bandwagon. more»

With Tuesday’s win over the Palm Beach the Marauders clinched the second half Florida State League South Division championship.  Bradenton hosts first half champion St. Lucie in a best of three series beginning Tuesday September 6. The opening game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. first pitch, gates open at 6 p.m., with games two and three (if necessary) following on Wednesday and Thursday at St. Lucie’s Digital Domain Park. more»

The Bradenton Marauders, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, are headed to the playoffs for the second time in as many years of existence, clinching the Florida State League South Division second half title with a 6-3 win over the Palm Beach Cardinals.
