The Tampa Bay Rowdies are going international. For the first time in modern club history, the team is headed overseas for preseason training to better prepare for the coming season. The team departs Thursday, February 26 for an 11-day trip to Portugal for exposure to the very best the sport of soccer has to offer.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Bradenton Marauders are accepting registrants for the sixth annual Baseball Basics for Women. The clinic is intended for young adult and adult women interested in learning or refining their baseball fundamentals. It will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. March 23 at McKechnie Field. The registration fee is $45.

Head Coach Thomas Rongen and the Tampa Bay Rowdies opened their preseason campaign the right way with a 1-0 win over Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union on a chilly Tuesday night at the Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex. Rowdies forward Corey Hertzog’s 67th minute penalty was the difference between the sides.

Two local fighters will highlight a big night of boxing at Sarasota's Robart's Arena on April 3. Bradenton's China "The Dragon" Smith will headline the card, defending his WBF North American title against a yet to be named opponent. Sarasota super-middleweight Aaron "The Jedi" Jaco will appear in the co-main event and is also scheduled to fight for a regional title.

The State College of Florida athletics department inducted four new members into the SCF Hall of Fame at a ceremony held last week at the IMG Academy Golf Club in Bradenton. The Hall of Fame Class of 2015 includes former basketball player Stanley Cromartie, former baseball players David Howard and Robin Jennings, and Brian Newberry, who was inducted posthumously as a student and staff member.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies will open the 2015 North American Soccer League Fall Season at home in front of their own fans at Al Lang Stadium on the Fourth of July as the Atlanta Silverbacks come calling for a holiday matchup. The club will spend plenty of time at home in July, with three of their first four matches of the Fall Season set to take place in downtown St. Petersburg.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will hold National Anthem auditions on Saturday, January 31 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at McKechnie Field. Auditions are open to anyone interested in singing The Star Spangled Banner prior to a Pirates Spring Training game. Prospective singers must feel comfortable performing in front of audiences of 7,000 people or more.
