Rain pelted down on the stone steps leading to artist David Wegman’s studio above Le Select in St Barthelemy. As Wegman strummed his antique guitar from 1860, it was as if we had transitioned into the past, back in time two decades to when this story took place. The tale he would pass on was a local pirate legend, a post-mortem journey, and an eerie act friendship.

The event calls people of all ages to connect to America’s great outdoors and care for the country’s public lands.This year’s National Public Lands Day supports the efforts of Let's Move Outside, a program of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let's Move! campaign. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) wants consumers to put safety in play if fireworks are part of your Fourth of July celebrations. A new CPSC study indicates that in 2009 there were two deaths and nearly 9,000 emergency room visits for injuries resulting from fireworks related incidents. Most fireworks injuries occurred to consumers younger than 20 and resulted in the loss of a limb in many cases.
