Port Manatee would reap the benefits of increased importing and exporting business when CSX Transportation's Winter Haven, Florida facility is completed in two years. Vance Bennett, Director of Port development for CSX Intermodal presented the encouraging news during his report to the Port Manatee board at Thursday's meeting in Palmetto.

Port Manatee Executive Director David McDonald presented Commissioner Larry Bustle with a port bell as both outgoing and incoming chairman of the Port Authority at the conclusion of Thursday's meeting at Port Manatee. The Port has a tradition of awarding a bell to the outgoing chairman each year, however, Commissioner Bustle was elected to serve as chairman of the Port Authority Board for another year in 2011.

The Board of County Commissioners proclaimed December 14, 2010 Mary Sheppard Day in Manatee County at Tuesday’s regular meeting in county chambers. Commissioner Michael Gallen read the proclamation honoring Mary Sheppard for her many years of service on the planning commission and civic activities.

The Port Authority held its final meeting of 2010 Thursday morning at Intermodal Center in Palmetto. The board heard presentations on the Port Connector Road project and from its new concession advisor ARUP. Port Executive Director David McDonald updated the board on paving improvements and Tiger Grant funding. After the meeting, the Port Authority held its annual Christmas luncheon.

County Commissioners approved a six-month extension of the emergency ordinance for a moratorium and permitting of pain management clinics in Manatee County at Tuesday’s meeting in county chambers. The “Pill Mill” ordinance is virtually identical to the emergency provision passed by the BCC on June 8, 2010.

The Board of County Commissioners passed an extension of the emergency ordinance banning "Pill Mills" in Manatee County at Tuesday's regular meeting in county chambers. In addition to approving the consent agenda, the commissioners made committee and advisory board appointments for 2011 and heard annual reports from the county Human Resources and Information Services departments.

Thursday’s monthly Port Authority meeting has been moved to 10:30 a.m. instead of the usual 9:00 a.m. start at Intermodal Center in Palmetto, Commissioner Larry Bustle announced during Tuesday’s BCC meeting in county chambers. This is the final scheduled Port Authority meeting of 2010.
