The Planning Commission recommended building a new charter elementary and middle school on the east side of 301 and west side of 30th Street East, just 400 feet south of the proposed 44th Avenue East extension. Neal Communities, under objection by county staff and a fire chief, got a recommendation to go forward with the proposed Silverleaf Development of 732 single-family detached residential units, sending the decision to the BOCC.

At Tuesday’s city council meeting, members amended the city’s current sign ordinance, banned possession of glass bottles from the public right of way and gave Claude Tankersley, the director of public works, the go-ahead to obtain the loan needed to upgrade McKechnie Field. Mrs. Anita Rogers, who was representing several homeowners adjacent to Tarpon Point Grill, complained of lewd acts and noise pollution associated with the business.

Both the city and county commission have now approved the execution of an agreement that will provide “fan-friendly” amenities to the stadium while still retaining it’s hometown atmosphere.

Almost four years in the making, a couple of design changes, a location move and a truck full of patients; what's it going to take to play ball. Palmetto Mayor, Shirley Groover Bryant thought blowing up a kingsize $800,000 city check would get the first pitch thrown out, but no one was catching. All of the players say, "the game is still on."

At Tuesday's BOCC meeting there was a lot of action. Palmetto Mayor, Shirley Groover Bryant arrived toting an $800,000 check to break ground on the soon to be built baseball fields. The contracts hadn't been drawn up yet, but that wasn't the only problem commissioners had in accepting the check. Also, the South County CRA  showed up with a string of heroes ready and waiting to keep up with the momentum on making their neighborhood a great place to live.

Palmetto City Commissioners present Manatee County with a giant check presentation for $800,000 that will go toward the construction of a county baseball field that will house the North River Little League. This and other issues were the subject of Monday's meeting.

Who's running for office in 2012? There are 16 county offices on the ballot, as well as 11 more in the cities, along with no less than 20 fire district seats. While some likely candidates are still in the “waiting to see” phase, others have jumped out to huge fund-raising advantages.

It's a jam-packed week of local government meetings starting with another school board budget workshop on Monday, which will also bring a Palmetto City Commission Meeting. The county commission will meet on Tuesday, while the Bradenton City Council convenes on Wednesday and the county planning commission meets on Thursday.

Mosaic hit a wall in a marathon session at the BOCC land use meeting Thursday. It was a team of very well qualified professionals and an extremely

knowledgeable public that set the pace, preventing the usual song and dance from getting the job done.

Six was the magic number. Residents of Parrish went before the BOCC for the sixth time to prevent the permitting of the Shunn-Shion Chung Springfield Subdivision. What started out as 29 homes, down to 23 homes, then to 19, 12 and finally there will only be 6 homes being built in the 25th Street, 12-acre development, if Mr Chung decides to still build.
