Spiny lobster season closed April 1. FWC officials are asking for beachgoers to look for shorebird nests built from sand and shell with chicks that can barely be seen and for them to avoid stepping on them. High pressure will continue to ridge across the Florida Peninsula and into the eastern Gulf of Mexico through the rest of the week. Winds and seas will begin to increase Sunday night as the next cold front approaches.

Our contributing captain, Rick Grassett, recommends looking for reds, snook and big trout on shallow flats or edges of bars in Sarasota Bay.

Off shore buoys and coastal stations are reporting NE winds gusting to over 20 knots, but those winds should subside on Thursday.

Weather Underground is reporting possible small craft warnings due to a cold front moving across the waters over the weekend. The pressure gradient will remain relaxed with benign winds and seas.

Snook season reopened in Gulf waters on March 1. Our contributing captain, Rick Grassett, says tides will improve towards the end of next week as we approach a full moon. Fishing deep grass flats for trout, Spanish mackerel, blues, pompano and more should continue to be a good option. Look for reds and big trout on shallow flats or edges of bars in Sarasota Bay. You may also find tripletail or false albacore (little tunny) in the coastal gulf when conditions are good there.

Snook season in the Gulf will reopened on March 1, and the FWC seeking publc input on reef fish data collection in their upcoming meetings. A cold front will slowly move through the waters producing rain showers, isolated thunderstorms and rough conditions. Winds and seas may also increase into Small Craft Advisory conditions behind the cold front Thursday night into Friday. High pressure will then prevail through Monday.
