The Pittsburgh Pirates and Bradenton Marauders are seeking concessions staff for the upcoming Spring Training and Florida State League (FSL) seasons at McKechnie Field. Jobs are part-time, gameday positions in roles including cashiering, cooking, bartending and other food services roles.

The annual Turkey Crawl event, held the night before Thanksgiving, is one of the biggest occasions in downtown Bradenton. However, last year’s leftover debris, overcrowding and underage drinking left some members of the Bradenton City Council with a bad taste in their mouths. Liability issues threatened the event from occurring this year. After much debate, it was unanimously approved with a stern message to business owners – any overcrowded bar will be shut down.

The City of Bradenton will be conducting a water main valve exercising
program for about a month in conjunction with the state’s construction
project on State Road 64, and water quality and pressure could be
affected. The exercising program will run from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekdays
from September 23 until the end of October. The area that could be
affected is along S.R. 64 between 14th-15th streets west and between
3rd-6th Avenues West.

City officials lauded the $6.2 million Riverwalk project as a revitalization that would redefine an entire city as the project broke ground on Monday. The enhancements, which will include rowing, an amphitheater, a skate park, boat docks and launches, as well as sand volleyball courts and picnic areas are expected to be completed within a year.

The decades-long discussion over what should happen in the last stretch of the City of Bradenton's downtown riverfront property will be extended, the Bradenton City Council decided Wednesday, as it voted 5-0 against a downsized plan for a luxury apartment building called River Song.

After a brief regular meeting on Wednesday, the Bradenton City Council received some encouraging news on potential business developments at a workshop in City Hall. City Planning Director Tim Polk reported that Chase Bank is planning to open two new branches in the Bradenton area within the next two years. Other businesses looking to open stores in the city are a sandwich shop, a 7-Eleven convenience store and a pool supply store. In addition, developers from Harbour Isle and Tidewater Preserve have construction plans for homes in the area.

The Bradenton City Council unanimously approved the conceptual plan for the Downtown Riverwalk Project before a full auditorium at Wednesday night’s meeting in city hall. A final approval of the plan and financing will be brought back before the city council at a later date.
